On 21 September 2026, a female photojournalist Chiraz Naili working for Nawaat went to collect what she believed was a delivery and was accompanied by two male colleagues for safety. Plainclothes security officers surrounded them, forced them into a vehicle, and took them to the National Guard’s central unit in El-Aouina, Tunis. The photojournalist was verbally abused, humiliated, and questioned about her coverage of a 19 September march supporting detained activists. Officers also attempted to access the journalists’ phones without a judicial warrant. The three journalists were released after almost two hours and were reportedly warned not to speak publicly about the incident.
