Times TV reporter Cathy Maulidi reported accurately on conditions at Kamuzu Palace/State House after transition of power. Her original pictures did not show smeared walls with faeces or broken windows. Other online actors circulated separate graphic images (faeces-smeared walls, broken windows) alongside her true story. A fake front page of The Nation newspaper was then circulated with the headline "Reporter Paid to Dent Former President," falsely claiming Maulidi "deliberately circulated false images to support unsubstantiated claims about the Kamuzu Palace being vandalized." The page was marked FAKE. https://malawi.misa.org/2025/10/10/misa-malawi-condemns-online-harassment-and-bullying-of-journalists/?fbclid=IwdGRjcAUsRGFjbGNrBSxEWmV4dG4DYWVtAjExAHBkb2YFc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQMMzUwNjg1NTMxNzI4AAEedHU4s_KDbNgPu4w3l3cjSS5dnGrwZEaanq0s8O5axh2c6RMF3ygh8zhuJUE_aem_geTxkTbpcPx7un4lCRiFrQ MISA Malawi on 10 Oct 2025 condemned the sustained online harassment, bullying and intimidation of Cathy Maulidi and Times Group, stating the attacks infringe upon freedom of the press, erode media credibility and pose a direct threat to Malawi's democracy.
