Former Times Group journalist Mirriam "Mimi" Mtambo has come forward alleging sexual exploitation and persistent workplace harassment by former supervisors at the media institution. In a Facebook post titled "When Women Protect Predators: My Story of Harassment and Silence in Malawi's Media Industry" dated 28 October 2025, Mtambo states her ordeal began at Times Group where she reported a sexual harassment case against a senior manager to her superiors. She alleges that weeks after reporting, she was called for a disciplinary hearing for allegedly taking pictures/videos in the studio and for "inappropriate" dressing — wearing a spaghetti top in a studio with a broken air conditioner. The summons email was sent by a fellow female colleague. Mtambo alleges subsequent retaliation: she was stripped of her shows, banned from TV appearances and transferred to Lilongwe, which she says affected her wellbeing and career growth, leading to her resignation. She states she has evidence and is considering court action. Times Group has not yet publicly responded to the allegations. The case has reignited discussions about workplace safety for women journalists in Malawi.
