In June 2026, Anne Nanduhura, a journalist with Radio Tuungane based in Minembwe, South Kivu (DRC), received three death threats linked to her reporting on the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in the region. The threats, two phone calls and one WhatsApp message, were allegedly from members of the Wazalendo militia and/or allied forces, warning her to stop publishing reports on drone strikes, civilian casualties, and the blockade of aid. One caller explicitly stated, “Keep publishing your stories and you’ll be killed,” while another message contained gendered intimidation, stating, “If we retake Minembwe, you will be our woman.” The threats were corroborated by other local sources and followed earlier attacks on her workplace, including drone strikes on Radio Tuungane in March 2026.
