NMG Uganda Managing Director Susan Nsibirwa broke down as she recounted the brutality and hostility she and her staff face, particularly from the state and its agents. Nsibirwa said she has been branded an “enemy of the state,” noting that merely wearing a press tag now attracts open resentment and intimidation. She revealed that several NMG journalists have required medical treatment after violent attacks by state agents. One female journalist, she added, is still undergoing multiple surgical procedures as a result of the injuries sustained. Nsibirwa made these remarks during an interview on The Hard Question, hosted by Solomon Serwanja. She further disclosed that NMG journalists are currently barred from covering Parliament of Uganda and any state functions attended by the president, restrictions that, she warned, severely undermine press freedom and journalist safety in Uganda.
