Intimidation and threats

Caroline Namara, a respected journalist from Bushenyi District in western Uganda, was abruptly fired over a phone call after expressing interest in contesting for a political office . Namara had served at the radio station for more than 16 years, earning a reputation for professionalism and dedication. Despite her long service, she was dismissed without warning or a chance to officially resign, as required by company policy. Her only “offense” was daring to express political ambition , a right guaranteed to every citizen. Even after her dismissal, the station further denied Namara the opportunity to purchase airtime to publicize her campaign, effectively silencing her voice. Her experience sheds light on the growing pattern of intimidation and discrimination faced by female journalists in Uganda, many of whom continue to suffer harassment, job insecurity, and punishment simply for asserting their rights or participating in public life. Namara’s case underscores the urgent need for stronger protections for female journalists and a more inclusive media industry that respects both freedom of expression and gender equality Read full story through the link https://nilepost.co.ug/politics/282194/bushenyi-journalist-fired-from-radio-job-after-moving-to-unseat-her-mp-boss
