Four journalists in Uganda, including NBS TV's Victoria Bagaya, sustained injuries during protests that emerged against National Environmental Authority (NEMA) evictions in Kasokoso village, Kira Municipality- Uganda. The journalists were struck by teargas canisters as police dispersed a meeting organized by local leaders on July 17, 2024. Human Rights Network for Journalists-Uganda (HRNJ-Uganda) condemned the incident, highlighting the dangers of excessive force by law enforcement against journalists. Executive Director Robert Ssempala called for accountability, emphasizing the need to protect journalists’ rights to report on public interest issues without fear of harm. The incident underscored the tension that surrounded NEMA's eviction efforts, which drew criticism for inadequate notice and heavy-handed police tactics. Via: https://hrnjuganda.org/?p=9991
